Hello Everybody
I want to share about our successful Arizona Desert Fire (AZDF) & Pueblo Optimist Club Basketball Camp. The camp was dated from June 16th to 22nd 2008 at Grand Canyon University. We had 81 campers from all over different states and International. During the camp week, our wonderful coaches were really excited to work with campers during the fundamental station drills. Also we had three different leagues: high school boys, high school girls, and young coed aged groups. Most of the games were very competitive in. We had two different guest speakers. Her name is Jill Noel from Arizona State University women basketball team, who was the top 10 leading scorers for ASU women basketball team. The other speaker is Tom Kuyper, who is a game broadcaster on T.V for Arizona State University men and women basketball games. He was a former teammate with Byron Scott during their days at ASU. Byron Scott, who is currently coaching for NBA’s New Orleans Hornets basketball team. We took the campers to WNBA Phoenix (PHX) Mercury game. Twenty campers went to the fan tunnel during pre-game. During the halftime, ten young campers were giving the opportunity to play a scrimmage on the basketball court while the fans watched them. They were so awesome in scrimmage game. The fans were cheering for them. Diana Taurasi who came out from halftime, gave high five to some of our campers and said, “great job”. After the game, the campers were able to get autographs with two Phoenix Mercury star players. The campers really had a good time at PHX Mercury game. AZDF want to express our gratitude thanks to the people who volunteered to work for our basketball camp. They did a great job at our basketball camp. Also, we want to thank to our sponsors such as Hawk Relay, Saguaro Interpreting Service, Pueblo Optimist Club, and Grand Canyon University for their support. We will have our 5th annual AZDF& Pueblo Optimist club basketball camp on June 21st to 27th at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. The information about next summer’s basketball camp will come out soon. We are looking forward to have another exciting basketball camp next summer.
