Q: What if my son turns 9 years old after the camp dates?
A: We will accept your child, as long as he turns 9 in the same calendar year as the camp.
Q: When do you usually sellout?
A: Each year, we sellout between late March and early April, but we cannot guarantee that it will not sellout sooner this year. You may call or email us around that time to see if we still have openings.
Q: I sent in my application and tuition payment for my son or daughter. When and how will I know if my son has been accepted?
A: We will mail out a confirmation package to you with all pertinent information. Due to the high volume of mail we receive, please allow 2-3 weeks for the packet.
Q: Where do the campers sleep at camp?
A: Campers are housed in the Grand Canyon University GCU) and room with other campers of the same age.
Q: How many campers to a room?
A: GCU dorm suite contains three rooms. Two rooms accommodate two campers each and the third room can accommodate
three campers.
Q: What kind of supervision do campers receive?
A: their own coach and dorm staff always escorts Campers to all destinations during the day. Coaches and staff reside in the same dormitory as the campers and also, we have nighttime duty to provide safety for the campers.
Q: Is there any medical/training staff at the camp?
A: We have an athletic training staff, which includes a Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer, on duty at all times.
Q: If my child has special meal requirements such as allergies to certain food, eating Kosher or being a vegetarian,
what do I do?
A: Please talk to the administrative and medical staff when you register your child on the first day or you may request a special diet in writing along with the application. We will arrange a special diet for the child with our food service provider.
Q: Can my child bring electronic games, MP3 players, television, etc.?
A: We do not recommend bringing anything of value. We will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Q: Will my child be at a disadvantage if he is not very good?
A: Campers are assigned to leagues based on both age & ability thru a draft process on the first day of camp. We try to keep each team to a maximum of eight players and each camper will play the same amount of time in each game.
Q: Can my child move up or down in leagues?
A: On the first day, after the coaches have evaluated the talent and drafted the teams as evenly as possible, they will ask some children whether they would like to move up, move down or stay in the same league.
Q: Can I cancel my registration?
A: There will be no refund if cancellation occurs less than one week before camp begins. Campers who have to leave due to illness or injury will receive a prorated refund based on the number of days room and board were required. No refunds will be given to campers who voluntarily leave camp (i.e. - Homesickness).
Q: Where is the coaching staff from?
A: The coaches are from many states with different levels of experience-college, high school and middle school.
Q: Who are the Guest Speakers?
A: There is generally one speaker each day (Current or former Suns or Phoenix Mercury players/coaches).
Due to players’ off-season schedules, we will not know who will appear until we are in session at camp.
Q: Where do most of the kids come from?
A: Campers have come from all different states and countries.
Q: May I visit the camp during the week?
A: YES and NO….We will allow parents to watch their child play during the day’s activities. We do not allow the parents to visit the dormitory areas, other than on the first and last days of camp. We reserve the right to prohibit parents from visiting if there are too many visitors around. This is only to insure the safety of all campers.
Q: What time is registration on the first day?
A: From 1:00pm to 3:00pm. If you happen to be running late, please do not worry. We will register your child with no problems whenyou do arrive. We would rather you travel safely than to rush.
Q: Will there be any activities on the first day?
A: We will begin play on the first day. That will include evaluating players in each age group and making up teams as evenly as we can.
Q: What time should I pick up my child on the last day?
A: Camp dismissal is at 6pm. Parents are welcome to watch the playoff games on the last day and attend the awards ceremonies.
Q: When is the Medical Health Form due that came in the confirmation packet?
A: The Medical Health Form must be signed by the child’s physician and brought to the first day of camp. NO ONE CAN PARTICIPATE IN CAMP WITHOUT A SIGNED MEDICAL HEALTH FORM. Please do not send us the form in the mail!
